FB54 Yurco Ginunting

Mickey Yurco is a retired law enforcement officer, a veteran SWAT team member, and a lifelong martial artist with black belts in three different systems. He is also an accomplished custom knifemaker with more than four decades of experience. His first collaboration with Spyderco draws upon all his unique talents to yield a dramatic expression of the Filipino ginunting. Derived from the word gunting (scissors) because of its Wharncliffe-style tip, the ginunting is a traditional Filipino sword popular in the Visayan region of the southern Philippines. Its unique concave profile gives it exceptional leverage and cutting power, while keeping its point naturally oriented for powerful thrusting tactics. The Yurco Ginunting faithfully translates these dynamic qualities into a more compact modern rendition crafted from 9Cr18MoV stainless steel. Its full-flat ground blade offers a superior balance of edge geometry and strength and is accentuated by a harpoon-style swedge that ensures a strong but acute point. The knife’s full-tang handle features contoured, polished G-10 scales secured by eight sets of stainless steel Torx® fasteners. It also includes an integral lower guard, a generously sized lined lanyard hole, and a flared fantail butt for a positive grip during high-speed manipulation. A stunning modern interpretation of a classic cultural pattern, the Yurco Ginunting comes complete with a custom-molded Boltaron® sheath with a belt mount.[1]
