History, mentionings from the forums etc.
- Disagreement between knifemaker and handle maker. "The friction folder kind of fell by the wayside when the knife maker and the handle maker had a disagreement. We ended up dropping the project to stop friction. We have another knife of Filleep's that we will be doing instead."
Information from the Spyderco catalog on the web
The C167 Friction Folder never made it to production, so isn't in Spyderco's online catalog. Here's information from the 2013 Spyderco Product Guide:
"Filip De Leeuw is a talented Belgian knifemaker whose specialties include high-tech expressions of traditional non-locking folding knives. Spyderco’s new Friction Folder is based on one of De Leeuw’s most popular designs and broadens the scope of our folder mechanisms. Its flat-ground VG-10 stainless steel blade features an integral lever that extends from the tang. Pressure on the lever rotates the blade into the open position where it rests against the stop pin. Gripping the contoured G-10 handle holds the lever firmly in place and stabilizes it during cutting chores. The handle is adorned with a series of inlaid mosaic pins and has no clip. Instead, the knife carries in a handsome open-top leather pouch with a pocket clip."
