History, mentionings from the forums etc.

"It seems that I'm not the only one that likes the Caly3. May I point out that the original design was created by British forumites (UKPK) and the lockback version was prompted by forumites and knowledgable dealers wanting a locking version of the UKPK. Another design created by the afi's. Thanx much for your sharing of what you'd like and we hope the end result works for all. I would also like to add that the maker did an excellent job. It took longer than we'd hoped (it seems everything does), but all in all, we could not have hoped for a better quality product. The Carbon Fiber ZDP version will be the same, except for materials. We'll hide and watch to see if there is sufficient demand for an FRN version in the future. sal"[1]

Information from the Spyderco catalog on the web

C113GP:

"The Calypso folder isn’t just one of Spyderco’s most popular folders, it inspired new Spyderco designs over the last ten years and converted many a knife buyer to the hard-use benefits of flat-ground, thick leaf-shaped blades. This is a workingman’s (or woman’s) folder and it’s founded on the design philosophy that the most comfortable and usable pocketknife is one that feels like a natural extension of your hand. The Caly3 has a VG-10 blade shaped like a leaf, thick at the tang, tapering to a robust tip. The sharpened edge is flat-ground and finely honed for precision and resistance-free cutting. There is a substantial finger choil where the handle meets the blade. At this spot the index finger settles naturally into the choil while the thumb settles directly above on the blade’s spine. The spine is textured with slip resistant jimping so the knife cannot slide forward or backward while cutting. The ergonomic handle is G-10 with a mid-positioned back lock. A low profile stainless wire clip holds the folder deeply in a pocket either tip-up. Please note, the "bronze" color that you see on the clip is intentional. The clips are actually heat treated (they are stronger and will perform better because of this). The heat treated wire clip is also more discreet in your pocket."[2]

Variations

All are made in Seki city, Japan and have a mid-positioned Back Lock with boye dent on the lock bar lever. For the C113CF model Spyderco uses high-end laminated ZDP-189 blade steel (sandwich lamination with 420J2 steel for increased rust resistance).
