FB24 Jumpmaster

Developed in close cooperation with the jumpmasters of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, the Spyderco Jumpmaster is a high-performance cutting tool specifically designed to support airborne operations. Jumpmasters are specially trained personnel who oversee airborne troops as they exit an aircraft during parachute operations. If a soldier hangs up and his chute fails to deploy, the jumpmaster must quickly and safely cut the static line to free the jumper.

The Jumpmaster’s fully serrated SpyderEdge cutting edge powers through webbing, rope and other fibrous materials with a vengeance, while its blunt-tipped sheepfoot profile eliminates the dangers associated with a traditional sharp point. Its blade is hollow ground from H-1—a remarkable nitrogen-based steel that is extremely corrosion resistant. To ensure strength, a deft balance, and a positive grip during high-stress situations, the Jumpmaster features a skeletonized full tang capped by injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon scales. The ergonomic shape of the handle “brackets” the user’s hand while the Bi-Directional Texture™ pattern of the scales ensures a positive grip in even the most demanding circumstances.

The Jumpmaster comes complete with a custom-molded Boltaron® sheath with a versatile G-Clip™ attachment that supports a full range of carry options. An ambidextrous injection-molded polymer sheath is also available as an optional accessory. The original sheath for the Jumpmaster includes nylon straps for carry on the calf and is sold separately.[1]


FB24 Jumpmaster 2

The Jumpmaster 2 is a second-generation expression of the acclaimed Jumpmaster design that combines all the high-performance features of the original with the increased versatility of an acute point.

Developed in close cooperation with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division jumpmasters—specially trained airborne-qualified soldiers who control parachutists during airborne operations—the original Jumpmaster was purpose designed to quickly and efficiently cut static lines in “hung jumper” situations. Its blunt-tipped sheepfoot blade had one of the most aggressive, long-wearing edges Spyderco ever produced, making it a popular tool of choice for survival-minded individuals who wanted a corrosion-resistant knife capable of extreme cutting power. That audience, however, also expressed a preference for a more acute, utilitarian point design that would make the knife even more versatile in emergency situations. When they spoke, Spyderco listened, and the result was the Jumpmaster 2.

The Jumpmaster 2 faithfully retains all the key performance characteristics of the first-generation model, but packs them into a leaf-shaped blade with an acute point profile. Its hollow-ground leaf-shaped blade is made from ultra-corrosion-resistant H-1® steel and offers the same impressive cutting power and edge retention as its predecessor, but with the added benefit of a more versatile point. Injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) scales with Bi-Directional Texturing™ guarantee a secure grip and are attached to the blade’s skeletonized full tang with corrosion-resistant hardware.

In keeping with its broader scope of application, the Jumpmaster 2 is furnished with a custom-molded, snap-fit Boltaron sheath with a G-Clip™ attachment. The sheath’s symmetrical design allows the angle-adjustable G-Clip to be attached to either side, supporting a wide range of left or right-side carry positions.[2]

The FB24 is made in Japan and features:

  • a Sheepsfoot Blade on the first version of the Jumpmaster
  • a Leaf Shaped Blade on the Jumpmaster 2
  • aggressively textured FRN handle scales
  • a handle profile that is very similar to the earlier FB12 Vagabond
  • lanyard hole in the handle
  • an additional sheath with straps that was sold separately.[3]
