The hamaguri grind refers to a grind which is rather usual on Katanas and other traditional Japanese cutlery, and is a convex grind. It bears resemblance to an appleseed when looked at from the front, hence the appleseed.

This grind has been used on the Lum Tanto series of collaborations with Spyderco.
