A lock refers to the mechanism that is used to lock the blade in the open position, so that it doesn't close on the user's hands. A locking mechanism is also often used to create tension on the blade in the closed position, to make sure the blade doesn't deploy without a deliberate opening action by the knife user. A lock refers to the mechanism that is used to lock the blade in the open position, so that it doesn't close on the user's hands. A locking mechanism is also often used to create tension on the blade in the closed position, to make sure the blade doesn't deploy without a deliberate opening action by the knife user.
