Based on the full sized C34 Jess Horn II, several special versions of the C34 Jess Horn II were produced exclusively for A.G. Russell. Three were of a reduced size and are unique, in that there was no production equivalent in any form. They are known as "Baby Horns" and were made in white Micarta with a Full Flat grind blade like those of the full size A.G. Russell Specials, and in black Micarta and all stainless steel with Hollow sabre grind blades like those of the production C34. The stainless steel version also used the SKU CX08.

Appearance in catalogs

The CX08/AGSP-2SS Baby Jess Horn was sold only through A.G. Russell, so did not appear in Spyderco catalogs.

Information from the Spyderco catalog on the web

CX08 Baby Horn G-10:

"Jess Horn was a true pioneer of modern custom knifemaking and the man directly responsible for inspiring Spyderco’s founders to produce high-quality folding knives.

He was also one of our first collaborative designers when we revolutionized production knife design in the mid 1990's. Of the three models Horn designed for Spyderco, the most unique was the CX08 model—one of Spyderco's rare "experimental" designs. Although it was never brought into full-scale production, the "Baby Horn" was manufactured in limited quantities for A.G. Russell in the late 1990’s.

This limited edition Sprint Run revives that extremely rare model, but with a distinctive, one-of-a-kind selection of premium materials, including a full-flat-ground VG-10 stainless steel blade, dark gray textured G-10 scales, and a classic straight stainless pocket clip configured for right-side tip-up carry.

A fitting tribute to a custom knifemaking legend and one of the inspirations that made Spyderco possible, the Baby Horn is destined to become an instant classic and a highly prized collector's item."

Questions regarding collecting the CX08 Baby Jess Horn

Q: Why does this have an experimental SKU? A: This design was originally built for A.G. Russell, but never for sales from Spyderco, so it didn't get a proper SKU designation since this design wasn't part of their regular production of knives, but for a specific reseller. It later got a Sprintrun from Spyderco, but maintained the "experimental" SKU number.

Q: If there were three initial Baby Jess Horn configurations produced for A.G. Russell, why did only the stainless steel version get a CX08 designation?
